The National Stock Exchange (BSE) Nifty, a major sensitive index based on 50 stocks, opened 121.05 points higher at 14,258.40 from the previous session and rose to 14,259.15 while the Nifty closed at 14,221.65.

Today, TCS, Cipla, Infosys, Dr. Reddy and ITC opened on the green mark in the major stocks in early trade. Hindalco, Tata Steel, HDFC Power Grid and JSW Steel opened at the red mark. In the sectoral index today all sectors opened on the green mark. These include pharma, IT, FMCG, metal, finance services, realty, PSU banks, banks, private banks, media and auto.

The domestic stock market started at the edge today on the previous trading day. The index SenHot opened at 48459.73, up 285.67 points (0.59 per cent). The Nifty opened 83.70 points (0.59 per cent) above the 14230 level.

Rupee is seven paise stronger against US dollar in early trade

The rupee fell seven paise to 73.38 against the US dollar during early trade on Friday due to the strengthening of the US currency and rise in crude oil prices. In the interbank foreign exchange market, the Indian rupee was in the range of 73.35-73.39 against the US dollar in early trade.
