UP, Bihar and Rajasthan: States have lost 2.6 lakh crores due to air pollution

2.6 lakh crore loss due to air pollution to states of UP, Bihar and Rajasthan.

Every year 16.7 lakh people die due to air pollution in the country and the economy suffers a loss of about 2.6 lakh crore rupees (1.4 percent of GDP). That is, air pollution is overshadowing both life and pockets. At the same time, some states are getting more impact. This has been claimed in recent research published in the journal Lancet. This study has been done by the Indian State Level Diseases Burden Initiative.

According to the report, the loss of GDP varies from state to state, such as Uttar Pradesh (2.15 percent of GDP), Bihar (1.95 percent), Rajasthan (1.70 percent), Madhya Pradesh (1.70 percent) and Chhattisgarh with low per capita GDP. (1.55%) The state’s GDP is losing more. At the same time, states with higher per capita GDP have suffered less,Like 1.52 percent for Punjab and 1.50 percent for Uttarakhand. The loss to states’ GDP is between 0.67 to 2.15 percent. At the same time, per capita economic losses are higher in Delhi ($ 62) and Haryana ($ 53.8).

Problem of the whole country.

According to Chandra Bhushan, a climate change expert and CEO of the International Forum for Environment Sustainable and Technology, there is a lot of pollution in Delhi, especially in winter, but pollution is a problem for the entire country.Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore and Hyderabad also have significant pollution. At the same time, most cities of Lucknow, Agra, Patna and Gangetic plains are struggling with pollution. Even the village has this problem. Therefore, the matter should now be about all these places, not just Delhi and cities.

What is the solution?

According to experts, to reduce pollution, coal plants in the fuel sector will have to be reduced and renewable energy sources (wind and solar energy) will have to be promoted. At the same time, battery-powered vehicles will have to be promoted while also making changes in transport. Similarly, tillage cultivation has to be encouraged in the agricultural sector, so that there is no need to burn straw.
